The IP3 initiative was launched in January 2007 with full support of the 90+ global IFIP Member Societies at the IFIP's General Assembly. The initiative's founding societies included the Australian Computer Society (ACS), the British Computer Society (BCS), the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), IEEE-CS and IFIP. Since that time, two of the associations (ACS and CIPS) have received IP3 accreditation for respectively the ACS PCP and the CIPS ITCP. Most recently, the Institute of IT Professionals NZ (formerly the New Zealand Computer Society), the Computer Society of South Africa, and the Information Processing Society of Japan officially joined IP3.
Membership in IP3 is open to those organizations that have made a commitment to supporting professionalism in IT and/or are actively working towards IP3 accreditation.
